Lessons, Classes, Ensembles & Workshops
We offer four kinds of instrumental music instruction: Lessons, classes, ensembles, and workshops.
Lessons are best for students who want to pursue a regular weekly course of instruction with a single faculty member, with the goal of continuously developing musical and technical skills. You may choose private, semi-private, or small group lessons at any level, from novice and early beginner to intermediate and advanced levels.
Depending on your schedule and your budget, you can choose from 30-, 45-, and 60-minute weekly lessons, with a minimum commitment of one 8-week session. There are six 8-week sessions throughout the year, so you can start at almost any time.
Classes are for students who want to spend six or eight weeks exploring a particular style of music, such as blues or rock, or a particular technique, such as slide guitar, with a single faculty member, in the company of a few other students with the same interest. Class topics change every six to eight weeks throughout the year, so it’s best to check the Class list regularly.
Ensembles are led by faculty members and provide a weekly opportunity for students to play music with others in a coached, structured setting. The fee for participating in a weekly ensemble is waived for private lesson students.
Workshops are similar to classes, but are most often taught by guest artist teachers who are not regular faculty members. Some guest artists are performers who happen to be touring the Bay Area, and their workshops are always single sessions. Other guest artists live and work locally, and their workshops run for as few as one or as many as six or eight sessions.
